The Shapeshifters

An instrumental promo sent out in 2003, inspired by the ex-wife of producer Simon Marlin, would go on to top the UK Singles Chart the following summer. That track, "Lola's Theme", set the course for The Shapeshifters, the alias that Marlin still uses today. The project began as a partnership with Swedish producer Max Reich, from Gothenburg, and Marlin alone has carried the name since Reich stepped away in the summer of 2017.

The group's first album, Sound Advice, reached number 76 in the UK Albums Chart in 2006, after singles "Back to Basics" and "Incredible" had charted in the top twelve. Their 2008 move from Positiva to Defected Records marked a new chapter, beginning with "Treadstone" that April. A digital re-edit of "Lola's Theme" then spent seven weeks at number 1 on the Beatport sales chart. Later milestones include the 2013 album Analogue to Digital...And Back Again, the 2022 album Let Loose, and a 2024 feature on ArrDee's "Different".
