About SNAP!
Built around the production partnership of Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti, Snap! gave German Eurodance a distinctly transatlantic flavour by drafting American singers, songwriters and rappers into its shifting lineup. Thea Austin, Turbo B, Niki Haris and Penny Ford all passed through the group, and their voices carried its hooks. The duo had already worked together in Off, alongside Sven Väth, and under the side project 16 BIT, but when they adopted the Snap! name they also took on the aliases Benito Benites and John "Virgo" Garrett III, believing the public held negative preconceptions about German music.
Their breakthrough came in 1990 with 'The Power', featuring Turbo B and Penny Ford, which topped the UK chart and reached No. 2 in Germany and on the US Billboard Hot 100. Its follow-up, 'Ooops Up', also hit No. 2 in Germany. The biggest success came in 1992 with 'Rhythm Is a Dancer', which sampled Newcleus's 'Automan' and reached No. 1 in Germany and the UK. The group disbanded in 1996, and a 2000 comeback single, 'Gimme a Thrill', drew little attention.
