Soen

The Swedish progressive metal outfit Soen thrives on the tension between precise musicianship and melodic weight. Drummer Martin Lopez, formerly of Opeth, anchors a group whose sound he has summed up as weighty, intricate and unlike anything else. Vocalist Joel Ekelöf, guitarist Cody Lee Ford, bassist Stefan Stenberg and keyboardist Lars Åhlund complete the current line-up, and the band's music has been read as a close cousin of Tool's, a comparison critics raised often while praising the players' skill. With seven studio albums to their name and a home on Silver Lining, they have built a steady catalogue.

Their debut, Cognitive, released on Spinefarm Records in February 2012 and mixed by David Bottrill, drew positive reviews, with the members' technical proficiency singled out most often. Tellurian followed in November 2014, and Lykaia, recorded entirely on analogue equipment, appeared in February 2017. Lotus, Imperial and Memorial arrived in 2019, 2021 and 2023, and the seventh and most recent album, Reliance, was released on 16 January 2026.
