About SPELLLING

Under the name Spellling, Chrystia 'Tia' Cabral makes experimental pop in Oakland, California, music shaped by a Catholic upbringing and a taste for the unexpected. Her records lean toward the dark and eerie, the qualities that critics picked up on most. Her stated favourites range from Minnie Riperton's Come to My Garden to Kraftwerk's Computer World and Iggy Pop's The Idiot.

Cabral worked as an elementary school teacher when she began releasing music in 2015, and a handmade CD called Crayola Church, built around the colours of a crayon box, was an early step. Her self-released debut, Pantheon of Me, followed in 2017. After signing to Sacred Bones Records in 2018, she issued Mazy Fly in February 2019 and The Turning Wheel in June 2021. Spellling & the Mystery School arrived in 2023 with re-recordings of past material, and Portrait of My Heart in 2025, the same year she supported Japanese Breakfast on the Melancholy Tour across North America.
