About Sue Foley
Born in Ottawa, Sue Foley plays a Texas blues style with a distinctly acoustic touch, and her work as a guitarist and singer-songwriter has been recognised with five Blues Music Awards for Traditional Blues Female and a Juno Award. She has shared stages with B.B. King and Buddy Guy, and alongside her playing she holds a PhD in Musicology.
She picked up guitar at 13, drawn to the blues through the Rolling Stones, and at 16 played her first gig. While still at school she recorded a single as The Blue Lights with Back Alley John. After graduating she moved to Vancouver, formed the Sue Foley Band and toured Canada. In 1988 and 1989 the band teamed with Mark Hummel for dates across the United States, Canada and Europe, and by 21 she had settled in Austin, Texas, recording for Antone's Records. Her 2001 Juno came for Love Comin' Down, and her 2024 solo acoustic tribute One Guitar Woman earned a 2025 Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album.
