About Supergrass
Few rock bands of the mid-nineties carried their cheek as lightly as Supergrass. Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey first played together in Oxford as the Jennifers, and the band that followed, with Gaz on lead vocals and guitar, Rob Coombes on keyboards, Mick Quinn on bass and Goffey on drums, began life as a three-piece. Rob Coombes did not officially join until 2002.
Parlophone signed them in 1994, and I Should Coco arrived in 1995 as the label's best-selling debut since Please Please Me. Its fourth single, "Alright", reached number two in the UK and was a hit abroad too. Five further albums followed, from In It for the Money in 1997 to Diamond Hoo Ha in 2008, before the band signed to Cooking Vinyl in 2009 to record Release the Drones, a record that remains unfinished. In April 2010 they announced a split over musical and creative differences, closing with four farewell shows, the last at La Cigale in Paris. They returned in 2019, and at the end of 2024 announced a 2025 UK tour that will play I Should Coco in full.
