About Teitur

Born in Hoyvík in the Faroe Islands, Teitur Lassen works across songwriting, composition, performance and production, and has done so full time since 2001. Several Danish Music Awards have come his way, and his tours have carried him well beyond the islands since his 2003 debut. Alongside his own records he has written for, produced and worked with a striking range of names, from Seal and Corinne Bailey Rae to Nico Muhly, Emilie Simon and Ane Brun, and his songs have surfaced on major film soundtracks.

His debut, Poetry & Aeroplanes, was recorded in Los Angeles and Spain and produced by Rupert Hine, and it drew opening slots with Suzanne Vega, Aimee Mann and John Mayer, who later praised it in Esquire. After leaving Universal Records he released Stay Under the Stars in 2006 on the newly formed Arlo and Betty label. Káta Hornið followed in 2007, sung entirely in Faroese, and The Singer won the Danish Music Awards' singer-songwriter album prize in 2009. In 2021 Queen Margrethe II of Denmark made him a knight.
