About Thomas Schumacher

Born in Bremen in April 1972, Thomas Schumacher is a German producer whose work sits within electronic dance music. Early on, he produced as NIP Collective with Ilker Yilmaz, putting out five maxi-CDs in 1993. His remix work runs from Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Monika Kruse to Afrika Bambaataa and Chicks on Speed, a spread that hints at how far his reach extends.

The late 1990s brought a run of milestones. After the NIP Collective ended in 1997, Schumacher launched Elektrochemie LK, and his track When I Rock, reworked by Simon Begg in 1998, proved more successful than its predecessor and appeared as a video on VIVA. His debut album, Electric Ballroom, came out on Bush Records that year, with Lust and Eighties among its tracks. Schumacher's own Spiel-Zeug label issued work by Clemens Neufeld, Umek and Adam Beyer. In 2000 Schall received awards in two categories, best national vinyl sales hit and best video, and the Elektrochemie LK album Gold followed in 2001.
