About Threshold

Few progressive metal acts have kept a single thread running through three decades quite like Threshold. Formed in Surrey in the late 1980s, the group has swapped vocalists and changed its line-up many times, yet guitarist and producer Karl Groom has been the one constant at its core. Their music pairs heavy riffing with long, winding arrangements, a balance that has held their albums together from the start.

They began in 1988 playing covers of Ratt and Testament before writing their own songs and signed their first deal in 1992. Debut album Wounded Land followed in 1993, taking its name and some themes from Stephen R. Donaldson's novel. Glynn Morgan then sang on Psychedelicatessen in 1994, and Damian Wilson returned for Extinct Instinct in 1997. Hypothetical, Critical Mass and Subsurface followed between 2001 and 2004. March of Progress and For the Journey came in 2012 and 2014, and Legends of the Shires reached the top 20 in Germany and Switzerland in 2017. Dividing Lines, released in November 2022, entered the Swiss top 20 and German top 40.
