About Vertical Horizon

Built around a pair of Georgetown University students, Vertical Horizon began in Washington, D.C. in 1991 as a duo of Matt Scannell and Keith Kane before growing into a four-piece. Since the mid-2000s the line-up has changed many times, yet Scannell has remained the only constant member. The band sits within American alternative rock, and its catalogue of seven studio albums begins with independent releases from the early 1990s.

Their third album, Everything You Want, arrived in 1999 as their first with a major label, RCA Records, which had signed them in 1998. Its title track reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2000, and the album was certified double platinum by the RIAA. Two more singles, "You're a God" and "Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning)", also charted. Later, Burning the Days, released in 2009 after a five-year hiatus, featured Neil Peart of Rush on three songs, and The Lost Mile followed in 2018. In February 2026 the band issued "Last Night of Our Lives".
