About Visions of Atlantis
Formed in Bruck an der Mur in the Austrian state of Styria in 2000, Visions of Atlantis draw on the symphonic metal of Finland's Nightwish and on the legend of Atlantis, a fascination that gave the group its founding concept. A pirate theme runs through their more recent albums, adding a seafaring twist to the grandeur of their sound.
The debut, Eternal Endless Infinity, arrived in 2002, and the band's second album, Cast Away, followed through Napalm Records in November 2004, with the single "Lost" given a first official video. Their track "Lemuria" was chosen to open the medal ceremonies at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics in Daegu. A 2007 US tour with Epica was another milestone, but the story turned sombre in January 2012 when the band announced the death of Nicole Bogner, their first vocalist, at 27. Ethera, released in March 2013, was dedicated to her memory. The Deep & the Dark came in 2018, and the seventh studio album, Wanderers, followed.
