About The Wombats

Sharp hooks and wry, self-deprecating lyrics are the calling card of The Wombats, an English indie trio whose sound took root after its members met as teenagers in 2003. Matthew Murphy, Tord Øverland Knudsen and Dan Haggis first crossed paths while studying at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, and the band's guitars, keyboards and drums carry the bright, restless energy of a group that grew up making music together.

Their first full-length album, Girls, Boys and Marsupials, appeared in 2006 but was released only in Japan, and several of its tracks resurfaced on the debut A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation (2007). That record, which arrived alongside 'Let's Dance to Joy Division', peaked at No. 11 on the UK Albums Chart, and the single is widely regarded as their signature song. Further studio albums This Modern Glitch (2011), Glitterbug (2015) and Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life (2018) met with mostly positive reviews, before Fix Yourself, Not the World (2022) gave the band its first No. 1 album, topping the UK Albums Chart within a week of release.
