About YES
Few acts in progressive rock have lasted as long or sold as widely as Yes, the London group formed in 1968 whose members have come and gone across twenty full-time players. Widely regarded as pioneers of the style, they have ranged across several musical approaches, yet their sound has remained recognisable around the expansive arrangements and close vocal harmonies that Jon Anderson and Chris Squire helped establish. Their albums have sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, with 13.5 million RIAA-certified sales in the United States.
Their first two albums, Yes (1969) and Time and a Word (1970), mixed originals with covers drawn from rock, pop, blues and jazz. After guitarist Steve Howe replaced Peter Banks, the group turned to progressive rock and made Fragile (1971), which carried the single "Roundabout", followed by Close to the Edge (1972) and the live Yessongs (1973). The reformed line-up of 1983 produced 90125, whose "Owner of a Lonely Heart" was their only US number-one single and whose track "Cinema" won a Grammy. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, and their latest studio album, Aurora, arrived in June 2026.
