About Yung Gravy
Matthew Hauri, the Rochester, Minnesota-born rapper who performs as Yung Gravy, builds his tracks on trap drums and then reaches back into the vault for soul. Tracks such as "Mr. Clean" and "Gravy Train" sample a 1954 Chordettes song and Maxine Nightingale's 1976 record, placing hard-edged rap beside older soul. Influences run from Outkast and Three 6 Mafia to Smokey Robinson and The Blackbyrds, and his style has been described as amusing, energetic, authentic and bold.
He began on SoundCloud, inspired by Lil Yachty and Lil Peep, and in 2017 gave up his other jobs to record full time. That year's "Mr. Clean" and "1 Thot 2 Thot Red Thot Blue Thot" both gained traction online and earned RIAA platinum certifications. He is often linked with the Canadian rapper bbno$, with whom he has released two collaborative albums and an extended play. "Betty (Get Money)" gave him his first Billboard Hot 100 entry, at number 30 in 2022, and it too went platinum. In January 2023 he performed at the X Games in Aspen, Colorado, and raced freeskier Tom Wallisch in a Special Olympics Unified Skiing competition.
