The Avalanches have released their fourth studio album, No Bad Memories, through Modular Recordings/Universal. According to Billboard, which reported the release, the record has 31 tracks, runs for 52 minutes and features guests including Karen O, John Glacier, Jamie xx, Barry Can't Swim, Rivers Cuomo and Mike Patton.

The group is now led by Robbie Chater, Tony Di Blasi and Andy Szekere. A video for 'I Give Everything I Have 2 U', featuring Loaded Honey, stars Haley Joel Osment. Billboard reports that it was shot in Tokyo by cinematographer Andrés Arochi.

A record about advertising and memory

The album's stated subject is the way commercial sound lodges in personal recollection. A statement accompanying the release describes it as exploring:

"the magical intersection of advertising, memory and nostalgia"

The same statement says the album examines "how jingles, sonic logos, commercials and the sounds of technology quietly embed themselves in our lives, becoming inseparable from the memories they soundtrack."

That premise suits a group whose reputation rests on sampling. Billboard notes that their 2000 debut, Since I Left You, was assembled from thousands of vinyl samples, with sources named as Françoise Hardy, Sérgio Mendes, Raekwon, Wayne and Shuster and Madonna. The source does not say how No Bad Memories was constructed, so it is not yet clear how far that method extends to the jingles and sonic logos the album takes as its theme.

Where the album sits in their catalogue

The follow-up to Since I Left You took 16 years to arrive. Wildflower went to No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The 2020 album We Will Always Love You later won the Australian Music Prize.

Of the video, the group said that working with Osment was "such a thrill". They described a one-take shoot in which he navigated Shibuya traffic with a large camera strapped to the outside of his windshield.

UK dates

Billboard says the group have dates coming up in the United States, continental Europe, the United Kingdom and Asia, followed by an Australian tour in early 2027. The report gives no UK venues or dates, and EILISH has not confirmed them. Readers should check the group's official channels and ticketing partners for listings.

The UK link on the record itself comes through Jamie xx and Barry Can't Swim, both named among the guests. The source does not say which tracks they appear on.
