About Chester Cathedral
Chester Cathedral is a Church of England cathedral and the mother church of the Diocese of Chester, set in the city of Chester in Cheshire. It began as the abbey church of a Benedictine monastery dedicated to Saint Werburgh, and it has been dedicated to Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Since 1541 it has served as the seat of the bishop of Chester, so it is first and foremost a working place of worship.
