About Civic Opera House

The Civic Opera House stands on North Wacker Drive in Chicago and is the home of the Lyric Opera of Chicago, which has performed here since 1954, and of the Joffrey Ballet since 2021. Its main auditorium, named after Ardis Krainik, seats 3,276, making it the second-largest opera auditorium in North America after the Metropolitan Opera House. The house is part of the wider Civic Opera Building, which opened in 1929 and carries Art Deco details.
