Clapham Common is a large, three-cornered park in south London, spread over 220 acres. It began as shared common land for the parishes of Battersea and Clapham before being turned into parkland under the Metropolitan Commons Act 1878. The open grass is framed by Georgian and Victorian mansions, with three ponds and a Victorian bandstand within its bounds, and Clapham Old Town sits close by, lending the space a settled, historic backdrop.
