About Flemington Racecourse
Flemington is a racecourse on low alluvial flats beside the Maribyrnong River in Melbourne, Victoria, best known as the home of the Melbourne Cup, one of the most lucrative handicap races in the world. Horses have been running on this ground since March 1840, which gives the venue a long racing history. The riverside flats set the scene for a major horse racing venue that draws crowds to its meetings.
