About The National
The National stands on Broad Street in Richmond, on a stretch once known as Theatre Row. It opened in 1923 as the National Theater, later became the Towne, and is the only one of the three original auditoriums still standing. Its stage was built to handle both early films and live shows. After a spell as a cinema that closed in 1983, the room reopened in 2008 after an extensive renovation as a home for live music and performing arts.
What is on now is a short programme, with one show listed for the next 30 days, headlined by Ashley McBryde. Start times, ticket prices and age policy are not given in the listings, so check the details before booking. Anyone interested in the room's current use will find that its stated purpose is live music and performing arts.
