The Steelyard

About The Steelyard

The Steelyard takes its name from the Middle Low German Stâlhof, and its past is one of trade rather than music. From the 13th to the 16th centuries it was the Hanseatic League's London kontor and its main trading base in England. Wool, and later woollen cloth, left through its doors while beeswax came in, and merchants from Cologne, the Rhineland and Westphalia held sway over the business done there.
