The Williams Center is an arts centre in the New Jersey borough of Rutherford, named after the Rutherford-born poet and physician William Carlos Williams. It began in the 1920s as a vaudeville house called the Rivoli, where audiences first watched silent films and later talkies. A fire in 1977 took part of the building, and it reopened in 1982 after a project backed by a group of philanthropists. Today the complex holds two live theatres, three cinemas and an open-air gallery used for meetings.
