Mayorkun has released a new single, 'Home Training', together with its official music video, and the song doubles as a marker of his tenth year in music. The release is the first track on his forthcoming EP, Long Live, The Mayor!, according to notjustok.com.

The production comes from Fresh VDM, whom notjustok describes as a long-time collaborator of the singer. Mayorkun's own explanation of the song centres on a particular kind of love, one that draws out a different side of a person. In his telling, there are moments when you have to decide whether to behave or to set your upbringing aside. The title borrows a familiar Nigerian expression for the manners and values a child is taught at home.

The EP

'Home Training' opens Long Live, The Mayor!, and Kaluba, which Mayorkun released earlier, is lined up to close it. That gives the project a frame made up of two singles already in circulation, with the anniversary release serving as the first new music from the EP.

A decade since Eleko

Mayorkun's career began in 2016 with his debut single Eleko. He started out on Davido's DMW label and went on to release two albums, The Mayor of Lagos in 2018 and Back in Office in 2021. Notjustok characterises the rest of his output as a steady run of melodic Afrobeats singles.

His recent activity has also included a guest spot on Harmonize's album. He appears on Bumpy Ride, the tenth track on the Tanzanian artist's 14-song record. Kaluba came out before that appearance, and the two releases kept him in circulation ahead of the new single.

The single is available to stream on Spotify, with the video released alongside it.
